2012 National AUA Resident Bowl
Outline
Attention: Western Section Residents
2012 AUA RESIDENT BOWL AT THE AUA ANNUAL MEETING IN ATLANTA
– (MAY 19-23)
Please be informed that the AUA will be holding a “Residents
Bowl” during the AUA Annual Meeting in Atlanta. We are
looking to gather a Western Section Resident Team and would
like to get a potential list of residents participating for
the AUA by January and a finalized list by March 2012 from
your institutions. Reminders will be sent.
Please see below outline of objectives and format.
1. Objective:
• The National AUA Resident Bowl will foster spirited
competition between resident members of the different AUA
regional sections, increase local/sectional pride and design
a social event with a lot of resident involvement.
2. Creating your Sectional Resident Team:
• Each Section Secretary and Section Executives will
work with the residency program directors of its respective
section to get a selection of residents interested in participating.
A few suggestions will include choosing residents from (1)
the current Sectional Residents Committee, (2) if applicable,
your Section’s Resident Bowl competition winning team,
or (3) the group of residents who are already attending
the AUA Annual Meeting for abstract presentation. The selection
process is your decision but we also recommend that each
program should submit the names of up to two residents preferably
URO -3 or URO- 4.
• Size of the team should consist of 4-5 members with
an alternate number of 4 other residents available in case
a resident needs to depart before the Bowl concludes.
3. Logistics:
• The Bowl will take place during the AUA Annual
Meeting in Atlanta, GA, in the Technology Hall during the
following days and times:
** Saturday, May 19, 2012 from 12:30 -1:30 PM and 4:00-5:00
PM
** Sunday – Tuesday May 20-22, 2012 from 12:30 –
1:30 PM
• An awards presentation will be given to finalists
after the last match (or game) on Tuesday.
4. Funding:
• The AUA is in charge of soliciting funding for
the entire Bowl at the AUA Annual Meeting and provide residents
who participate, with a comparable stipend for travel expenses.
5. Game Format:
• Twenty (20) short answer questions per game that
are written ahead of time by designated doctors.
- After each question is asked the teams buzz in
- Who ever buzzes in first has 10 seconds to answer the
question as a team
- One point is awarded per correct questions, there’s
no penalty for incorrect answers
- If the first team is incorrect, the other team has the
opportunity to answer the question
• Each Section Secretary will participate as judges
but will not be allowed to judge his/her own Section.
6. Designing of Questions:
• The AUA will choose specific candidates by subspecialty
to develop the questions.
More details regarding the development of the “Resident
Bowl” will be provided as it progresses. Please work
with your Resident Committee Representative to ensure that
they assist with your team development. If you have any questions,
please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Desri Lashley-Rogers
at dlashley@auanet.org
with your questions.
