Dear
Friends and Colleagues,
I
am very excited to invite you and your families to the 83rd
Annual Meeting of the Western
Section AUA in Scottsdale, Arizona at
the Hyatt Regency Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch.
A recent 12 million dollar renovation created resort services
that capture the spirit of the Southwest and offer something for
everyone; young, old and in-between. On the grounds of the resort
are located a 2½ acre water playground, three-story waterslide
and cascading waterfalls. If golf is your game, enjoy 27
holes of on-resort Benz and Poellot-designed championship courses.
Or if the creature comforts are more your style, take pleasure in
the state-of-the-art Spa Avania beauty and salon treatments
with health and fitness facilities, 4 tennis courts, jogging and
bicycle trails. Explore history, artwork, exhibits and
computer learning at the Native American Center. And while
you are enjoying the many resort offerings, remember to enroll your
children in Camp Hyatt offering supervised unique experiential activities
focused on the flora, fauna, history and geography of the Sonoran
southwest.
But
lest we forget, you are staying in the heart of Scottsdale and do
not need to limit yourself to the on-site resort activities described
above. Should you tire of the 27 holes of golf located on the resort,
shuttle to one of the many golf courses calling Scottsdale, Arizona
home. The resort also offers free shuttle service to neighboring
galleries, museums and shopping. On Sports Day we have made arrangements
to take you to Saguaro Lake Ranch, a “must do” for those
of you not golfing or in the PREP courses. There will be something
for everyone so bring your kids too! Activities include horseback
riding, hiking, kayaking, exploring, a boat ride on the Lake, or
just relaxing at the Ranch to enjoy the beautiful desert landscape.
See Sports Day page for more info.
We
all know that the meeting academics are educational and of the highest
quality. That is the “given.” But the feature that will make this
meeting truly unique is the resort. I have never experienced a resort
that offered so many amenities with only 490 rooms. The Western
Section will occupy over 80% of the rooms and essentially
“take over” the facility. With a room rate
well below current market rates (unless you prefer Scottsdale in
the summer during 110º heat), you will not likely again be
afforded an opportunity like this to enjoy such a luxurious family
week of fun and learning. Please join us.
