COURSE
DESCRIPTION
This
year’s forum is designed for the practicing urologist who
finds his income and practice quality impacted by falling reimbursements,
increased overhead, greater regulation and new levels of oversight
and review. The morning begins with updates on EMR, coding and Medicare.
Focusing on new threats and opportunities, the afternoon’s
presentation will look at the nuts and bolts practical aspects of
ancillary sources of revenue and profit from one of the nation’s
most experienced legal authorities on how to expand services that
bring greater quality as well as income to your practice. For those
involved in CT, MRI and other imaging partnerships as well as all
urologists who utilize ultrasound in their office, Pat Fulgham MD
will explain how the AUA is countering efforts to restrict who can
provide and interpret various imaging studies (and tell us how we
can continue to get paid). David Penson MD will update urology’s
participation in Pay for Performance programs, a source of extra
income this year and something certain to play a more major role
in your practice in coming years. And as usual, there will be updates
on state, regional and national legislative issues central to maintaining
the economic viability of your practice.
Urologists
have never faced as many threats and challenges to their practice
welfare as they do today. If you intend to survive and prosper in
this environment, you cannot afford to miss this year’s Socioeconomic
Forum. I look forward to seeing you there.

Kaufman MD, FACS
